OOC: Character Survey of Doom

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? He's about 5' 8" and has an athletic build.

2. How old is he? Depends. When he first died he was 14, when died a second time he was 15 and post series he's 18.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? At the beginning of the series, Yuusuke had a tendency to slouch while he walked, save for the moments when he stood up to kick people's respective asses. As the series progresses, he learns to hold himself more confidently, though at times it does border on total arrogance.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? He's healthy, having shown no signs of cold, flu or fever in series. He is definitely more than fit.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? When Yuusuke walks or fights, he's very strong and firm with his footwork, while his arms do have a bit of fluidity.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, definitely. He's not ugly, and he doesn't look at himself in the morning and exclaim his gorgeousness to all.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? Slightly tanned, if only because he spends most of his days outdoors instead of in buildings (ie., in class like he's supposed to be.)

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Yuusuke's hair is jet black, and is light and thin. It's mostly styled ala typical punk kid from Japan: slicked back with pomade. When greased, it gives off a sheen.

9. What color are his eyes? A deep brown.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Not any outwardly physical noteworthy features, no.

11. What are his chief tension centers? No clue what that means, so next question!

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? When in uniform, it's green. No adjectives needed. Just. Green. Casually, he has two jackets: one in a neon-ish green and another one in red. His shirts tend to be t-shirts or cutoff shirts or tanktops.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Considering that this took place in the nineties and tight jeans were the in thing, combined with tucked-in shirts...

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? Yeah he does. He's mostly shirtless on the job anyway, so.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? ...Shit, if this were a Kuwabara survey I'd know the answer. But... Ah, what the hell, probably a boxers sort of man.



Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Not deep or high. Just. Kinda Brooklyn-ish, if you go by the dub? I don't know. Nothing too out of the ordinary.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Yuusuke isn't at all afraid to speak his mind. He's as loud-mouthed as they get, usually.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? No verbal ticks, and probably if he had an accent, it would be a Tokyo-area one? I'm pretty sure at least.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? Japanese, and only Japanese.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Nope.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Urameshi Yuusuke does not know what the word "thinking" means.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? He isn't a master orator, but he doesn't stutter when he speaks either.



Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Hahaha. Street-smart, totally.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? Another word Yuusuke does not typically heed: Deliberation.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Practically intuitive. Instinctive, even.

4. What kind of education has the character had? About to 9th grade level, were he to actually attend classes.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Fighting, kicking ass, smoking, kicking ass, being smarmy as hell, and ass-kicking.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? He'd rather keep to himself, but not in the quiet, bookish sort of way.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Hahaha, pray to whatever god you believe in that you do not get on Yuusuke's bad side. You will be severely injured.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? Probably suspicious if they're of the sort to have special powers. Otherwise, I doubt he could care less.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? I'm gonna go with react? He's not particularly a heads-on sort of guy.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight. No question.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? Sarcastic, when he's feeling up to it.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Nope.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? The first time he died. The time his girlfriend got kidnapped. When he absorbed Genkai's Spirit Wave Orb. When he almost died in front of Toguro. The second time he died.

14. What does he fear? Losing his loved ones, if anything at all.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations? That the people he cares for the most stay out of harms way. Otherwise, Yuusuke isn't very ambitious.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? Yuusuke isn't particularly secretive, but he'd probably be keen on not telling the whole world about how's he's a half-demon.



Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Dad's a no-show and mom's an alcoholic. Still, his mom cared enough to be a sobbing mess when he first died.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Nope.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Noooope.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Probably Kuwabara, who he considers a brother of sorts. Maybe Hiei and Kurama, to a certain extent.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Kuwabara. Though the lanky Spirit Sword wielder was and still might be intent on finally kicking Yuusuke's ass for good. Thought that won't happen. They trust each other a lot.

6. Does he have other close friends? Hiei, Kurama, Chuu, Jin... a good number of people.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? His intimidating nature tends to push people away, but he's will to befriend people who do approach him/interest him enough.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Probably friends, considering his mother doesn't show up very often.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? Single in regards to never having been married. He's in a denial boyfriend-girlfriend thing with Keiko Yukimura though.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? See above. He's very in-denial about Keiko being his girlfriend, but obviously cares about her a lot.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? Keiko. All the Keikos.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? He isn't looking at the moment :|

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? Doesn't have any, and I don't think he'd be particularly opposed to having them. He was willing to sacrifice his life for one, after all.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Lots of enemies. Kuwabara is his main rival, as mentioned above.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? As Kinsey 0 as a Kinsey 0 gets, canoncially. However, if all the doujin I've seen have anything to say...

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? He probably won't give a fuck, canonically. Doujin say otherwise.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? No indication of any bedroom habits, and I really am not willing to speculate.



Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? I'm not quite sure what year he was born in, but online speculation about the day of his birth makes him either a very late Gemini or a Cancer. He doesn't particularly fit either of those signs much, aside from Cancer's protectiveness.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? Not much of either, though he is certainly aware of the supernatural.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Nothing beyond no killing humans, though he did break that code once, albeit not of his own accord.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He is so indifferent. No question.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? He's prejudiced towards murderers and psychopaths, does that count?



Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? From his domestic situation, it seems as though he's lower middle class. But his mother seems to have connections with the yakuza, so who really knows...

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? Looked down upon by most people. An outsider. Hasn't really changed, even if he has saved people's lives ten times over.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? He lives in an apartment with his mother, and spends most of his time out of the house. It is an utter pigsty, especially when his mother is home.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Cigarettes, when he did smoke them.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? Not really for a living, but he does detective work. He's appreciative of a job he is acutally really good at.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? When he did have free time, go to the panchinko parlors. Fun times.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? Early in the manga implies that he drank a little alcohol. Other than that, he isn't shown eating too much. Seems like a burger guy to me, though.



Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:

1. Color? Green. That godforsaken uniform. Ugh.
2. Smell? Cigarettes and the blood of his enemies, most likely.
3. Time of day? Yuusuke strikes me as a night owl.
4. Season? Summer.
5. Book? What are books.
6. Music? Probably the sort to enjoy 80s rock.
7. Place? Somewhere away from all the other stupid people. Namely, the roof of his middle school.
8. Substance? Tobacco.
9. Plant? That's Fox Boy's territory, not his.
10. Animal? Phoenix.
